Our Aim
Waterloo School of English was established to provide
a truly first class educational experience for anyone
from any country. We believe the key to learning a
foreign language is being happy in the environment
where you study and having confidence in your teachers.
By having friendly classes (of no more than 16 students)
and carefully recruiting excellent teachers, we feel
we have achieved this.
We are registered with the Department
for Innovation, Universities and Skills on its Register of
Education and Training Providers (www.dcsf.gov.uk/providersregister).
The Register is a list of genuine education and training
providers in
England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The
Register does not quality
assure or accredit in any way the learning provision
of any registered
provider.
Waterloo School of English is accredited by the British
Council and a member of English UK, the world's leading language teaching association. We are also a member of the Association
of British Language Schools (ABLS) and accredited
by the Accreditation Body for Language Services.
Our Teaching Methods
We use the Communicative Approach at Waterloo School of English, which means encouraging fluency through the use of pair and group work, role playing and simulations of real life situations. We focus on the four key language skills, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. As well as using the latest course books in class, you will be given authentic materials to expand your knowledge and skills. Grammatical work and vocabulary building are also core elements at all levels of our language teaching.
Your Welfare
We do everything we can to make your experience at
Waterloo School a positive one. When you arrive you’ll
receive a welcome pack with information about studying
at our School and about life in London. Our School
is well maintained with pleasant classrooms. Internet
access is free and available to all students, so that
you can keep in touch with friends and relatives wherever
they are.
Waterloo School has a Student Room and a large Sun
Terrace where you can socialise with other students
from all over the world. However, we also run an extensive
social programme that includes regular trips, parties
and other events. We suggest you get involved to make
the most of your London and Waterloo School experience.
If you have any academic problems, you can see the
Director of Studies, who will be happy to talk with
you. Any other problems you have can be discussed with
the Welfare Officer.
Waterloo School of English is a member of UKCOSA
(The Council for International Education),
which protects the interests of students from other
countries studying
in the UK. UKCOSA provides advice and assistance
on any issue affecting you as an overseas student. You
can see their website for more details (www.ukcosa.org.uk/index.htm).
Joining us
When you arrive on the first day of your course, you
will be given a placement test and then you will be
able to start your class immediately. Our classes are
based on an interactive relationship between students
and teachers and we will make sure that you are happy
on your course, improving your skills and knowledge
as quickly as possible. You will be continuously assessed
to check you are making progress or ready to move up
a level.
